EMERYVILLE , Calif. , December 17, 2001 -- Sybase, Inc., (NYSE:SY) today announced a reseller agreement with CocoBase Enterprise O/R from THOUGHT Inc., the leader in Object to Relational (O/R) Mapping Technology, to help customers simplify the complex process of persisting relational data by automatically generating CMP and BMP Entity Beans.

In addition to cutting the time it takes to code Container Managed Persistence (CMP) and Bean Managed Persistence (BMP) Entity Beans from approximately 48 minutes to 30 minutes, automatic code generation minimizes debugging and maintenance issues thereby the reducing the overall development effort and cost.

CocoBase’s Dynamic Mapping Layer allows Sybase customers to quickly and easily map, generate and deploy CMP, BMP or Java Server Pages (JSP) to EAServer. CocoBase boosts productivity by eliminating the need to hard-code database access for Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) Entity beans and JSP’s which can decrease development time by as much as 85 percent. This partnership offers substantial cost savings for companies investing heavily in EJB-based application development.

CocoBase Enterprise O/R, Dynamic Mapping for the Enterprise, provides a powerful standard for bridging the chasm between objects used by Sybase EAServer and relational databases. The CocoBase technology is based on a landmark patent issued to THOUGHT Inc. for Repository based Object Mapping. It is the technology and product leader in the Java space.

“We are excited to partner with Sybase to help meet the rapidly changing needs of enterprise application development requirements,” said Ward Mullins, CTO for THOUGHT Inc. “Sybase’s EAServer sets the standard for scalability and overall performance. By providing CMP, BMP Bean Persistence and JSP’s from CocoBase Enterprise O/R to EAServer, we are not only offering customers the opportunity to work with leading technology, but also to benefit from a dramatic cost savings of EJB application development.”

“This partnership is an example of our commitment to provide customers with the very best technology platforms and tools to optimise application development environments,” said Billy Ho, senior vice president and general manager of Sybase’s e-Business Division. “The need to provide tools that aid in the delivery of quality applications is at a peak in the face of tighter budgets and smaller work forces.
