Borland® And Thought, Inc.® Provide Industrial Strength Solutions for E-Busines

NEW YORK, Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Booth #538 -- Today at the e-Business Expo in New York, Inprise Corporation, (Nasdaq: INPR), herein referred to as Borland, and Thought, Inc. announced the availability of CocoBase® Enterprise O/R for Borland® AppServer™ 4.5. Thought, Inc.'s CocoBase provides Borland AppServer 4.5 users with the ability to integrate relational data with Enterprise JavaBeans™ (EJB™) applications quickly and easily. Using CocoBase to connect AppServer to a relational database can save time and substantial costs in developing, maintaining, and upgrading e-business applications.

Customers using AppServer 4.5 now gain a significant advantage in upgrading their Web sites by the instant generation of Container and Bean Managed Persistence (CMP/BMP) features of CocoBase, giving developers access to the flexibility and power of BMP while retaining the simplicity of CMP. AppServer can be optimized and extended utilizing CocoBase so that developers will be able to leverage a compelling platform for building enterprise-strength, J2EE™ compliant, Internet business applications.

"Our integration with AppServer supports both Container and Bean Managed Persistence, providing a complete development platform for database access with EJB applications. Combined, the two products deliver flexible and customizable persistence that can easily adapt to our customers' needs," said Ward Mullins, CTO of Thought Inc.

"Having third party vendors, such as Thought, Inc., extending and enhancing our AppServer provides our customers with the best solutions to meet their needs," said Thomas Torf, vice president and general manager of Borland's enterprise business unit. "By combining Thought Inc.'s highly sophisticated object relational mapping tool and our AppServer 4.5, we enable global 1000 customers to meet the demands of today's high-speed e-business economy and offer a complete solution."

"We find that the main requirements companies have for building applications on the EJB server platform is high performance, ease of use and scalability," said Dan Wilson, vice president of sales and marketing at Thought Inc. "The enhancements to our CocoBase Enterprise O/R, specifically for EJB, make it an essential part of the solution for delivering these requirements to our customers in combination with AppServer."

About CocoBase Enterprise O/R

CocoBase Enterprise O/R provides a powerful standard for bridging the fault between objects used by EJB Servers and (RDBMS's). The CocoBase technology is based on landmark patents issued to Thought Inc. for Repository based Object Mapping. It is the technology and product leader in the Java space. Thought Inc. invented Repository based Object Mapping and then built a system on the technology that actually is more efficient than static solutions. This makes it an essential necessity for any Java Enterprise Component Developer.

Container Managed Persistence (CMP) allows developers to build EJB components without having to directly deal with persistence during development. Since Bean Managed Persistence (BMP) requires that developers write a certain amount of persistence code, the use of CMP reduces the need for a developer to understand or to implement persistence code, which will dramatically speed up and simplify development. In contrast, the use of BMP makes it easier for the developer to edit and customize persistence code during development. Although BMP delivers much needed flexibility to a developer, it also increases the complexity, which CocoBase Enterprise O/R manages for customers. By utilizing CocoBase Enterprise O/R, the developer finds little difference in building applications using either CMP or BMP.
